Assembly plant help decipher

I have tried to look up the assembly plant information of my Model A pickup, by the frame rail number it is a September 22 1930 engine build date. On the body cross member the number is either a "B" or an "8" located in the center of the cross member, and closer to the drivers right heel is the number 4522. It is a round speedometer closed cab pickup. The pickup was bought by the previous owner in the late 50's or early 60's in eastern South Dakota while he was in college. The painted letters on the hood were for a plumbing business. My dad transferred the title in July 1963 to his name. Any help is appreciated.

Gary WA thanks, I visited his web site this morning and did not come up with a definitive answer to my question. He has done extensive research that is for sure.

Briggs and Murray built and marked some of their bodies. Budd made a lot of the closed cabs under contract to Ford. Subcontracted bodies and cabs were sent out complete to the various home and branch plants for final assembly. Ford's branch assembly plants as well as the Rouge didn't do much toward marking where all their products were assembled. If a person was fortunate enough to know what dealer the vehicle was originally sold from then it would likely be from the nearest branch plant. Ford didn't really start stamping final assembly information on till the late 40s. Some branch plants had more capability than others. The closest branch plant to South Dakota was likely the Demoine, Iowa facility. There was already a lot of water under the bridge by the late 1950s.

Gary WA - The truck is titled as a 1931, it is a closed cab (not a steel roof) and the narrow wood floor box like the earlier pickups. I think the reasoning behind the 1931 title year is that is when it was first sold.

When did the plant in Omaha Ne. start operation? Did Budd or Briggs make the non steel roof cabs? I wonder if that "B" or "8" is a B for Budd or Briggs.

Budd made both pieces and complete cabs depending on time frame. The solid top cabs were likely completed by Budd. They mere made very close to the end of production for the model A. Ford sold a lot of trucks and pickups but they were still in the limited category much the same as all the Fordors. Production slowed a lot in 1931 as the depression got worse.

Is it an indented or flat firewall cab? Sounds like a June or earlier truck.Firewall will narrow it down a little more.It could be a 30,titles are manmade pieces of paper that can say anything.

I have a 31 wide bed pickup. Does not have a steel roof or indented firewall, and it has an oval speedometer. Might be all correct or it could be a frankentruck.
