Cheap bias ply tires ? 1 Attachment(s)
I’m looking for 7.00-16 bias ply tires to put on the rear of my 32 for a reasonable budget.
I really like the look of the Firestone deluxe champion or Bf Goodrich Silvertown but they are really expensive, especially in Europe. I red some guys use light truck or trailer tires. I found the Nankang NR066 or Taifa TP001. What did you fit on yours ? |
Re: Cheap bias ply tires ? if you can access a Walmart- buy the trailer tires there. I put 15" trailer tires on my 1965 corvette and they look pretty good. I know walmart closed down in Germany, so I have no idea if you have them in Belgium?

Re: Cheap bias ply tires ? What disadvantage (if any) of running trailer tires on a car? I would expect they would ride a little harder, but I could live with that if they looked ok. For certain older sizes, that's sometimes all you can find online.
Anybody know? |

Re: Cheap bias ply tires ? From what I remember, trailer tires are heavier , so braking will be affected. Top speed is lower and they come radial and bias . I was concerned about the weight, almost double the 6.50-16 I was comparing them to . All that , I’m still contemplating the purchase . I dont drive aggressively, dont drive over 70 mph , and I’m frugal okay CHEAP .

Re: Cheap bias ply tires ? I paid 55. each for mine from Walmart, for 15's. I believe they have a thicker sidewall
then a reg tire, and therefore, should last a good long time. my corvette will hardly be driven, let alone beat on. they are fine by me and give me "the look" wo spending 250. per tire. Im cheap too. dont feel bad........... |
Re: Cheap bias ply tires ? thers nothing cheap any more
|
Re: Cheap bias ply tires ? walmart still has them for that price richard
55. is a heck of a lot cheaper then 250. I had no interest in a mortgage payment......... |
Re: Cheap bias ply tires ? Now I'm intrigued. Here is a 7.50 X 16" tire for about 1/2 of the price of Coker. I'd like to see one before I'd say they look close to a Coker made Firestone.

Re: Cheap bias ply tires ? I think some if not all trailer tires are labeled for trailer use only. Your insurance company may quarrel with you if there is injury/property damage due to a tire on a vehicle that is clearly labeled for trailer use only. Ymmv

Re: Cheap bias ply tires ? Brakes and tires are important safety features, I would get the opinion of a reputable tire shop on mounting trailer tires on your classic vehicle.

Re: Cheap bias ply tires ? You wouldn't want 10 ply tyres on a car. You wouldn't want 'em on a truck either (1/2 ton type)

Re: Cheap bias ply tires ? I have Excelsior 6.50-16 on my '36, see this old post of mine:
https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=326506 I continue to be very happy with these, pretty much identical to the Coker Firestone bias ply tires I was using before and much cheaper. I see them still listed on Summit and Jegs at $135, seems availability is intermittent. Not 7.00-16 and not in Belgium, but I think a good alternative in the U.S. Adam |

They did have the look though. John |
Re: Cheap bias ply tires ? Most reasonably priced trailer tires that I checked out seemed to be 6-ply, not 10. Some say 6-ply rated, whatever that means.
|
Re: Cheap bias ply tires ? Rated 6 ply means it has virtually the strength and flex of a 6 ply tire. Look up the word virtually if you think you know its meaning.
|
Re: Cheap bias ply tires ? Whatever, these tires need low psi if used on a car
