1935 Inner Fender With Louvers

The early 1935 car inner fenders did not have louvers. About April they started installing the inner fenders with louvers. I assume the louvers were for cooling, ie removing the heat from the engine compartment. My car is early and does not have the louvers. I have a chance to purchase some with lovers but was wondering if anyone knew just how much these louvers help. The fellow does not want a whole lot for them but it would be a lot of work to remove the front end just to install. They must help some because I think every ford after that had the louvers.

Henry wouldn't have made them if they didn't work. He only changed through necessity. Yes it is a big job to remove all the front panels to install them, all depends how much you drive the car.... and how 100% correct you want to be. But I'm putting them into my phaeton. My father once had a nice 5 window that had 1 of each??? Maybe it was the day of the change over?

Dan's right. Ford new he had a problem with heat. The louvers were part of the fix. The louvers help remove heat from the engine area helping the engine run cooler and thus more comfortable interior.

The louvers were definitely added to help engine compartment cooling. I also think they look pretty 'cool' as well, but I personally would not want to go through all the hassle of taking that front end apart just to add louvered inner fender panels. I would suggest buying them if you have a good deal going and have them ready to exchange if/when you may need to take the front end apart for some other reason. JMO
I have a set that were factory installed on one of my '35's. Picture attached. I also bought a set on Epay that turned out to be NOS. I'm holding those to use on one of my '35's that I will be running fender-less.....some day....like the picture in my Avatar. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...ineSwap-18.jpg

great thread here -various references to buying later louvered inner panels - curious what the going rate (how much $) is for a nice set of NOS or excellent condition used panel set.

I would like to know to what they sell for on ebay. Going by the vin number on my car it looks like there were approx. 600,000 1935 cars made with the louvers. So there should be a few around. I think 1936 inner fenders are different.
