Garage lift

I have an 8’ ceiling and a 33 Ford. The maximum I can lift the car is 3’. Anyone know of a lift/hoist than can accommodate my limited space needs?

Re: Garage lift

There is a scissor style lift that is like a two post lift in how you get the frame set to be lifted but without the posts. Good for brake jobs, tire stuff and the like. However, anything under the center of the car that needs repair is hindered by the very nature of the like.

Google it and see if will do most of what you want to do.

The next solution are ramps that used to be available - they are propped up at the front and you onto onto it and jack it up in the back for about 20” clearance. This is the opposite of the scissor lift in that there is no obstruction underneath but you would still need a floor jack for things where you would need to remove a wheel, brakes, etc. Google this and see what you come up with as well ….

Good luck ….

The "old time" solution was to dig a trench in the yard & drive over it.

I have this lift:

https://www.kwik-lift.com

It requires a floor-jack to lift the rear. I park my car on it when I don't need to get under the car. I just moved... no longer need my Qwik-Lift. It comes apart, will fit in a pickup truck.

Both Kwik Lift and Quick Jack are good solutions - I have the Quick Jack as it is frame lift and frees up entire suspension and under car for servicing! Both are excellent for low garage ceilings.

I too have a Kwik Lift. Affordable and works great if don't mind laying on a creeper under the car. With a maximum 3' lift available you will be working on your back anyway. I purchased mine second hand and I still see them for sale used every now and then. They usually came with one cross plate but 2 would be better. Wheels were another option. I just put mine on HF tire dollies when I want to roll it around.

Kwik lift ceased production a year ago due to lack of steel. If anyone knows of a used Kwik Lift for sale, I’m interested.

MaxJack used to be real popular over at the Garage Journal. Portable 2 post lift. https://www.maxjax.com/?gclid=CjwKCA...BoCLk0QAvD_BwE

Re: Garage lift

There are 2 viable solutions for your problem
1 - Put in a pit.
2 - Raise the roof.

A pit is MUCH easier because it does not have to be done quickly to keep the rain and locusts out.

Re: Garage lift

Don't even think about telling your insurance broker if you have a pit.

Re: Garage lift

Pits are illegal in a lot of places.

Nice two poster Tony but twice what I’d like to spend ideally.

I have a set of quick jacks, I bought the 12 volt model, I even left my ‘41 on them thru the winter once. In Nov-Dec. time frame the Quick jack site usually has a $100 or more off promotion.

So far I’ve used them with my ‘41, a Lincoln MKZ, a Frontier, a Ford Focus, Camry, and I sure I missed a few other cars relatives own.

I emailed Kwik Lift if they had an ETA when lifts would be available again and their response was no ETA at this time. Doesn't sound promising.

I'm kind of a dinosaur but I never figured out the advantage of a Kwik Lift when a floor jack with some good jack stands gets you to the same place. Kwik Lift is probably safer?

Hey Krylon 32. I have the same lift as you. It's a wonder i am still alive with all the bumper jack lifts i used in my teenage years.

I have a 4 post Bendpak lift which I love, but I have 2 projects and needed something better than the constant floor jack/jack stand shuffle. I saw this thread and liked the frame lift idea of the Quick Jack, saw it is a Bendpak product, and gave them a call. I was routed to the same gal I dealt with 4 years ago when I got the 4 post. I was given some nice "returning customer" consideration, and 3 days later Fed Ex delivered. So far I REALLY like it.
