1930 Sport Coupe Landau Irons Does anyone know of a vendor that sells finished Landau Irons?
I can only find the raw castings for sale. They are reasonably priced enough that I could try and polish them up myself, and just start from scratch if I screw it up, but I would like more options. |
Re: 1930 Sport Coupe Landau Irons Also, assuming I polish up the cast aluminum: are there any recommendations on how to keep the metal from corroding?

Re: 1930 Sport Coupe Landau Irons I know Snyders sold them at one time, you can check online.

Re: 1930 Sport Coupe Landau Irons Snyders appears to only sell the raw castings now. I guess i'll need to break out the elbow grease...
Thanks for the reply. |
Re: 1930 Sport Coupe Landau Irons They are supposed to be painted black with SS center covers.

Re: 1930 Sport Coupe Landau Irons According to RGJS, they should be painted body color.

Yes, I see that and its also in the painting guide. I was quoting from How to Restore Your Model A Volume 5. I don't know which is correct, but I guess if being judged then you indeed are correct. See attached copy of the page ( I hope). |
Re: 1930 Sport Coupe Landau Irons I’m familiar with that excellent article. It is the best and most complete article I have found about the sport coupe, especially the top. I don’t know how to reconcile the two sources.
I personally think the landau irons look better painted black. My own green sport coupe has black landau irons. W. Michael |
Re: 1930 Sport Coupe Landau Irons Would you be interested in a set of original 1930 Landau Irons. Do you need just the arms, or the hardware as well? I hgave other top parts as well. Jim 706-564-0120

Re: 1930 Sport Coupe Landau Irons A small pet peeve about landau bars.
Please take the time to study factory original photos for the their correct installation. Unlike Cabriolet owners there isn't an excuse except sloppiness to in install fixed landaus 'backwards'. Cabriolet owners often reverse their bars to prevent them from coming 'unlocked', as a result of having a poor fitting top or excessive wear at the joint. |
Re: 1930 Sport Coupe Landau Irons Replacements were black and I think Ford started leaving them black in late production. My old 29 came with the aluminum types but I found some originals eventually. The bars on the Model A Sport Coupes are all basically the same.

^THIS!^ At least half the pix I see on the net are upside down and/or backward. The passenger side should look like a letter S and the driver's like a backward S - the fake knob should point to the rear on both sides. |
