First start in 50 years! I bought my coupe about 50 years ago. I immediately took it apart, body off, with hopes of restoring it. I didn't have a clue what I was doing. I had the engine rebuilt at Pioneer Valley Model A in Chicopee, Massachusetts about 40 years ago, but I never ran it. Well life and family took precedence over the Model A. Now fast forward to 2023. The engine was locked up solid. Over a period of a couple months I pulled the pan and head and kept soaking everything down with P B Blaster and ATF mixed with acetone and finally got the engine loosened up. I put the engine back together and started it for the first time today.
I couldn't run it long, radiator is not installed but it ran pretty well. It needs some carburetor work, but I'm am pleased with the progress. Joe in southern New Hampshire:) |

Re: First start in 50 years! Glad to hear you could get it going!
With no radiator, I assume you had no coolant in the engine, as it will pour out the bottom... You mentioned that you didn't run the engine for very long, but I just wanted to mention that when the coolant passages are empty, the engine will overheat VERY quickly! |
Re: First start in 50 years! Good Times! Enjoy...
