1952-1954 Purchase I have a Model A & a Model T. I'm finding it hard to resist getting a '52 - '54 Ford sedan. (not bad for a die-hard C***y guy...) I'm not real picky on which year, or model or color. A big plus would be a black one that could be a cop car, but I'm not too picky. So, what are some areas of concern to look at when buying one of these cars? Typical rust areas? Bad engine/transmission years? Are parts hard to find?

Re: 1952-1954 Purchase I had a '53, it was a great little car. But if I did it again I would look for a '54 with the Y block and upgraded front suspension.
Most parts were not too hard to find. May have to hunt a while for some things. Floors and rockers typically for rust. The front crossmember on the '54 model can have rust issues. Drip rail and around the windshield rust through can be a pain to fix. Look out for that. |

Re: 1952-1954 Purchase The 54 is prone to rust in the front crossmember where the A-arm attachment points are, get up under it for a good look. I always like that body style!

Re: 1952-1954 Purchase A 53 with overdrive in good shape is the best road car of the early V8 era.
54s with the ball joint suspension steer better than the 52s and 53s, but the front cross member likes to rust out, I don't like idiot lights, and I just can't get used to that dashboard. |
Re: 1952-1954 Purchase Worst rust area on my 52 was the front fenders around the headlight buckets. So bad I just found some better replacement fenders. Otherwise just the rockers and floors. In 54 you still got the flathead here in Canada. And never a six cylinder option.
