36 Mechanical break upgrade

Are there still kits out there for upgrading mechanical breaks to juice? Or even better disc?

Yes 39-48 ford or the new Bendix. But why? I can lock all 4 wheels at 60mph on my stock 36 should I choose to. Just add floaters and fully adjust correctly.

Richard Lacy of the Early V8 Garage has a kit.

X2 on good stock brakes. Use the correct linings, adjust properly, and drive happy.

My '35 Fordor has these floaters and they work great. My car feels like it has modern brakes.

That's the same type of floaters/equalizers that I have on my '35 fordor slantback sedan (FB Avatar) and they also work fine for me.

I have never seen that type of floater before. What type are they? I would be interested in learning more.

I'm sorry but what are floaters? Do they improve the braking force with manual type brakes?

Floaters convert the fixed anchor brake shoes to floating brake shoes. That allows the brake shoes to self center in the drum. Fixed anchor shoes require careful adjustment which is very tedious and usually difficult. If the fixed anchor shoes are not perfectly centered in the drum then only part of the friction lining acts on the drum. Floating shoes result in all the friction lining of the shoes up against the drum slowing the car down.

I use Teds kits, Ive installed 4 sets in the last 3 years, crazy good.
Can lock em all up at once, and at that point with any type system, you can only stop as fast as your tires are sticking..

Wow! That sounds like something I would like to do to my 36 coupe. Any suggestions on a floater kit?
