Replacement Rear Bearing Grease As CRC has discontinued Sta Lube 3131 Heavy Duty Drum Brake Bearing Grease, does anyone have a good replacement grease for the rear bearings. I’ve just started addressing the rear hubs on my 1934 Fordor and it was good that I did as the grease was very light and the grease seals had never been touched (and were shot).

Re: Replacement Rear Bearing Grease I am currently checking into a new type of sticky synthetic lube made for wheel bearings in heavy trailers, a local has purchased a 5 gallon tub of it and I am going to get some and evaluate it.

Re: Replacement Rear Bearing Grease I just ordered a 7 lb tub of Sta-lube drum brake grease from a place called ATEK distribution. Not cheap but they had it, same green Sta-Lube label.
I Googled "drum bake grease" and scrolled down a bit and saw it. I still have a small can of the Sta-Lube 3131 but since I have 5 early Fords I thought I better get it while I can. The larger 7 lb tub is probably for industrial users. I will compare the 2 when it arrives and report back. There was no separate handling charge, just price plus shipping in paypal. |
Re: Replacement Rear Bearing Grease I called vanpelts but no return call. ATEK is now showing no stock for the 7lb pail. I can’t leave my 34 Fordor on the lift forever so I’m going with Lucas Red n Sticky #2. That looks like what was in there already. If anybody has a better solution, I’m all ears but since the preferred is now no longer available, I have to use something.

I haven't put my rear wheel bearings in yet so I can't report the results in a Ford. But this is terrific red grease and works great in big truck wheel bearings. I use it just about everywhere that doesn't have some proprietary grease specified like machine tool spindles. It has a very high 4 ball rating so it's good lubrication, and it very strongly resists washout. I first heard about it from a contractor who used it in excavators that worked in water, and investigated a bit. I now use it to seal coolant out of fixtures in machine tools to prevent rust - works great. And lasts forever, I've never had a lube failure or found dried grease where I've applied it. It's not super tacky like marine grease but it does stay put. AND it's inexpensive and easy to get. Kendall SHP grease |
Re: Replacement Rear Bearing Grease I think Sta Lube's replacement for the 3131 is 3111. It says its for disc and drum brakes.

Re: Replacement Rear Bearing Grease Tractor Suppy has a variety of greases, for most any situation. I prefer the wheel bearing grease designated for disc or drum brakes.
|
Re: Replacement Rear Bearing Grease I use the red high temp grease, JT6 for non disc brakes. Have not had any issues.

Re: Replacement Rear Bearing Grease Was the benefit of the old 3131 grease that it contained "soap threads" that kept working their way into the bearings and spreading the grease into the rollers as they rotated/worked?

Re: Replacement Rear Bearing Grease I like this Ludas grease.
