rear window glass How thick is the rear window glass on a 1930 roadster pickup. I have seen specifications on the glass used on the model A but can't remember were

Re: rear window glass According to the Service Bulletins, the rear glass for roadsters and phaetons is between .080" and .187" I would think a roadster pickup would be the same. An 1/8" thick should be about right. I used 1/8" thick tempered glass for my 29 phaeton rear window. The Service Bulletin info is for 1928, but I doubt Ford changed the thickness and size during production. The info is on page 250.

Re: rear window glass I think that was a typo on that particular Service Bulletin page 250. The glass next to it shows .080 to .087 and the frames aren't all that much different in the way they bed the glass. The major problem in the modern era is that glass is not available in a lot of different thicknesses unless it is custom fabricated. The 0.125" or 1/8" is about the thinnest glass available. I would measure the width between the two halves of the assembled frame and see where it bottoms out since this method can't predict the thickness of the top materials. A person may need longer screws and the old frames were held together by odd thread size screws.
The Service Bulletin is likely not complete due to its publication in May of 1928. It doesn't include all sizes or Fordor sizes. Sanders Repro glass can use 1/8" if specified but a person has to make sure the size they list will fit. They can do glass on a customer's pattern if their pattern isn't correct. A lot of others only supply .250" thick glass and it's kind of heavy for a roadster. |

Re: rear window glass I just received the rear window for my 31 Roadster from Sanders Repro Glass. None of the usual A dealers currently have this window available. I think your vehicle probably uses the same glass which is 1/8" thick.

Re: rear window glass Having watched the film of Ford making glass for the Model "A", I believe all of the plate glass was the same thickness, and all of the safety glass was the same thickness but different from the plate glass.
