Fuel pump bushing question

Finally got my 8BA block back from the machine shop. I am planning to use an electric fuel pump for my build. The machine shop pressed in the fuel pump rod bushing into the block but threaded a bolt into it. Is that right? The machine shop who did the work seemed to know flatheads wheras I am no expert. Before I start reassembly just wanted to make sure that's the right thing to do.
Thanks in advance

gergstuff: This fuel pump push rod bushing is a never ending discussion. If you have time, read through these threads about anything that has the word "bushing" in it.

On my 8BA I left the bushing in place and did not "literally" plug it. That was over 30 years ago and no drop in oil pressure. I am using Castrol 20W-50 oil.

I left the stock bushing in place just in case I ever decided to go back to a stock fuel pump.

Re: Fuel pump bushing question

There is no oil pressure going to the rear cam bearing. The later engines had a small hole in the bushing to add lub. I hope the little hole did not get plugged. I would pull the plug if you have the manifold off.

Here's more good reading about plugging the fuel pump push rod bushing.

It won’t hurt a thing if it is plugged. I’ve plugged that little hole in the bushing with solder several times on the 8BA when using an electric pump and removed the push rod. The earlier blocks don’t have that hole. There’s really no need to plug the bushing either.
