Weird Fitting on Oil Bypass Line 1941 Ford Super Deluxe
 

I blew the bypass oil filter line returning to the flathead v8 on my 1941 Ford Super Deluxe. Upon closer inspection I discovered the fitting that failed is designed to flow through a bolt that attaches the distributor.

Has anyone seen this type of setup before or is it a 1-off retrofit? Next, I'm trying to determine how to proceed. I'm wondering if there is somewhere I can find a replacement fitting or if I should braise it together or do something else. Looking for some thoughts.

That fitting is kinda correct in your 41. However, the line was flexible, not rigid.
The reason I say "kinda" was that in 1941, the return line (rigid) was routed to a special fitting, integral of the oil pan. That fitting was on the left side of the pan, near the front.
These lines are available from time to time on eBay. I'd be apprehensive to use a line, even if NOS, that was 80 years old.

You can buy a banjo fitting and filter end and make your own return line , there is no real pressure on it.

Kinda interesting , my 46 Cadillac has the same fitting for the same purpose on the timing cover. Maybe your oil filter assembly is made by the same company as my Cadillac's. Tim

Coincidentally, the first Ford became a Cadillac.

Braze an eighth inch union onto the old banjo fitting and go from there.
