I assumed the exhaust deflector was a factory option on the Mercury. Mine is similar to this but has holes in it that might have had a reflector lens in it. From the 53 manual.

Thank you.

As the term implies "Exhaust deflector", that's precisely why these became a "thing". They kept the exhaust in part from attacking the bumper plating.

Thank you all - based on the responses, they would seem to be a legitimate accessory for certain years. Not sure if this enhancement is appropriate for pre-war ?
