What Size Truck Tires for 1946 1.5 ton??? Looking at getting tires for my 46 1.5 ton truck. Has 7.50x20 in the front and 8.25x20 on the rear. What size came on the truck originally and what size if everyone running?

I knew when I bought this it was gonna be running 8.25 x 20s on all six. I like my trucks sitting 'way up firm and high'. The rubber overdrive from these 38" tires kept me up with the island's 40 mph speed limit.

Re: What Size Truck Tires for 1946 1.5 ton??? The 1946 Dealer Handbook shows all six 7.50-20s achieved a 12,500 lb gvwr. Fitted with four 8.25-20s at the rear achieved a 14,500 gvwr. Stu

What brands are the best to buy in the 7.50 and 8.25 size? Talked to the local tire shop near me and they have a brand called Vee Rubber.

Re: What Size Truck Tires for 1946 1.5 ton??? I bought all six tires used from a CL seller for 600 bucks. Maybe a local fleet changes them out on a schedule and would have some used. I think for new tires they are gonna be from overseas, but really they must have to pass the DOT stuff. Also check with Miller Tires in Ohio. They specialize in vintage truck and tractor tires. Keep us in the loop, many of us here like the big trucks!

Re: What Size Truck Tires for 1946 1.5 ton??? I did a little looking around I found 9.00 20's they are hard to find and expensive, about $330 - 425 each. 8.25 are a little cheaper, I found them @ $277, delivered to my zip 97502.

It's a 3 rib, 7.50 20, implement tire (like a tractor tire) that could make steering a a lot easier for $154 ea. I couldn't find anything smaller than the 8.25's for truck tires. My '35 has 7.00 20's on the front and dual 6.50's on the back. |

Re: What Size Truck Tires for 1946 1.5 ton??? I have Firestone 6.50-20 front and back on my '35 1-1/2 ton. In the day, many trucks had different, usually smaller, front tires. I went for the same size all around just to make swapping tires uncomplicated. Watch out for body clearance with big tires under loaded conditions and also as someone else mentioned, rubbing together of dual rear tires under load.

They could get 7.50 and 8.25 for $400 each mounted. Talked to a buddy who lives about 2 hours from me. He said he had a set of 4 8.25x20 that a neighbor gave him. Said he would give them to me. His neighbor is very particular and said the only reason he took them off because they were 5 years old. All the guy did was haul grain out fot he ield with the truck that they were on.
