What wheel color for a 39 tonner
 

I have a dartmouth green 1939 tonner and just got some steel wheels that are black. I cant decide if I should try to find a match to the green paint and paint them green or do an off white or cream (I have IH off white ) or just leave them black.

It seems to me I've read that body color wheels were available for trucks at a slight extra cost. Otherwise they were black with a silver lock ring. I have experimented with wheel colors on my trucks and repainted over tacoma cream because it was too light. In my opinion the off white/cream doesn't look period correct on a '39 tonner. I could get some wheel photos tomorrow as I have four jailbar trucks, two being tonners. And are these stock 17" multi-piece wheels? If not, what fits the 5 on 6 7/8" bolt circle?

The extra wide 5 I just sold was original paint, cream color. 5.5 wide, as opposed to the usual 5", certainly no expert on trucks, but I thought it was a tonner wheel.

what color do you prefer? the black sounds fine by me.

IF you are undecided, My vote would be “Cream” color!!!

That is a 3/4 ton wheel. The Tonner wheels are different.

Here is a standard tonner wheel with a 7.50 x 17 tire. Under that hubcap is a a 5 on 6 7/8" bolt circle using 3/4" studs.This one is caterpillar yellow. A '39 wheel doesnt have the four 'vent slots' at the center and is a bit narrower, but I have run 7.50s on them numerous times. Will get some wheel color pics today.

Tacoma Cream= in the Ford paint family; wheels on my '33, via paint chips to steel apparently first and only paint. good choice(w/ its Washington Blue(black fenders) body. Thank you

Almost guaranteed Ford painted the wheels black. Body color was the only other listed option unless you purchased a fleet and special ordered non-standard color combinations.

I've done a lot of steel wheeled builds. Hard to top a deep Black with a shiny center cap.

I am playing with wheel colors on ms paint. So far what looks ok to me is gray, black or green
