Converted 46 Ford heater to 12 volts

Purchased a 12 volt heater motor from NAPA part # BK6551022 for $50.
Original shaft was 1/4 inch, new motor shaft 5/16 INCH so fan hole had to be enlarged.
Rotation on original motor CCW , new motor CW but specs state the rotation is reversible. Changed the polarity and rotation now CCW.
An easy and inexpensive fix. Was planning on using the original 6volt motor on 12 volts but my motor was NG. New motor is SINGLE SPEED

I also used the 655-1022 motor for a '41-up heater, but added a toggle reversing switch to better run heat or defrost. I left it single speed to eliminate the need for heat-producing stand-alone resister(s).

Sounds good. How did you wire the toggle switch ?

I found a 30 amp toggle switch 3 position reverse polarity DC motor control on line. The part number is 28PR-MTD, if still available. Motor connects to the middle contacts, + and - 12V to one end.

I mounted the switch to the top of the heater housing, and wired so "up" is defrost and "down" is heat.

Thanks for the info. That’s a clever solution
