Another Question - C59A block coolant passage 1 Attachment(s)
I just noticed this threaded passage in the block just behind the water pump mating surface as I was prepping it for paint. In all the years I’ve now had this engine, I don’t think I ever noticed them. Going through the flathead books I have, I see no mention of them. The one book by Mike Bishop & Vern Tardel show a block being assembled with the port blocked off, while I. The book by Tony Thacker & Mike Hernan the block used in their assembly pics has no port. So, the question is what were these ports for? Will now need to get more 1/4” NPT brass plugs.

Re: Another Question - C59A block coolant passage Simply a drain plug. Not uncommon.

Re: Another Question - C59A block coolant passage Thanks. Just curious. Will plug them up.

Re: Another Question - C59A block coolant passage The Canadian blocks were all cast across the river in Windsor Ontario and they did things a bit different than the Rouge on the other side. Ford did various things for block drains over the years so nothing surprises me much anymore.

Re: Another Question - C59A block coolant passage My block did not have them, so I drilled & tapped it on both sides there for drain petcocks.

Re: Another Question - C59A block coolant passage I have vintage brass petcocks in all of mine. They work great for draining every last drop out of there when I change the coolant, like you're supposed to do every two-years.
