Tire Size 40 Ford Pickup 1 Attachment(s)
Hey Fellas, Looking to buy a set of wide whites for the 40. What size is the original for that year. I have 670-16s on it now. Lester brand. I don't think i want a radial... i wont be driving long distances. Truck probably will only go 45mph LOL. I like the look of the bias. I also like the BF Goodrich silvertowns. Input??? Ken

Re: Tire Size 40 Ford Pickup I would go with 700- 16 on back and 650- 16 on front thats if your rim is 5 inches wide!

Re: Tire Size 40 Ford Pickup 600x16's for stock.

Re: Tire Size 40 Ford Pickup In 1940 the standard 1/2 ton pickup tire was a 600x16, the heavy duty option was 650x16. An additional heavy duty option for 1/2 tons was available in the "artillery" style of wheel, this wheel is generally a 15"...
My father preferred the artillery style of wheel because they were not prone to splitting at the tire bead line when 6 ply tires were used. The standard 16" pickup wheel is nothing more that a regular passenger car wheel. |
Re: Tire Size 40 Ford Pickup I will be using a stock 4 in. wide x 16 in. rim. The front rims in the pic are original. The rears are 850x15. I have a nice set of originals that i'll have all 4 sandblasted. I thought about the big & little, but i'm leaning towards to having all 4 the same size. Thanks for all the help. Ken
