Snyder’s head question 2 Attachment(s)
I have what I believe is a 6:1 Snyder’s head
I pulled it off a B engine that I bought last year. Using that as a frame of reference, I’m assuming the head on my coupe also has a Snyder 6:1 head. I haven’t driven it since I bought more than a year ago and I’m getting ready to get it running/driving. What are the odds these same marks without being the same head? Or do all model A heads have these “dots”? |
Re: Snyder’s head question Now that I’m looking, I see there are stock heads listed on eBay with those dots.
Is there any way to tell whether stock or Snyders head? |
Re: Snyder’s head question A photo of the under side showing the combustion chambers would help.

Re: Snyder’s head question Again, now that I’m looking, I’m thinking this is a stock head.
Do you agree? |

Looks like a Snyders 6.0 head to me. By the way, in my opinion, that is an excellent combustion chamber design. Ask Don at Snyders. |

I have no dimple on my 6.0 Snyder head. Attached pic of combustion chamber.

I thought it was a Snyder head, but compared to yours, the combustion area goes further into the piston area. |

That is an original Model A head. All original heads (and the Burtz head) have those marks. The 3 marks that you found are where core support wires exited the casting and most were ground off as part of the casting cleanup. |
Re: Snyder’s head question The picture you show is a stock head.
|
Re: Snyder’s head question I have always thought the snyder head has no marks at all on the top, where as a stock A head will have some casting #'s . True ?

Re: Snyder’s head question Thanks for that info, Y block

Re: Snyder’s head question Thanks fellas.
I’ve been messing with these cars off and on for 12 years or so and still amazes me how much I don’t know. |
Re: Snyder’s head question The problem with heads is everyone wants them to look stock on the outside. The only way to tell is by the combustion chamber. Even then someone may have cast a similar looking chamber (but deeper or shallower) knocking off a part without doing the hard work. You need to figure out the actual volume of the combustion chamber to know for sure.

Re: Snyder’s head question Just got a Snyder's 6.0 head after flip flopping between 5.5 or 6 and the 6 does not have the dots.
|
Re: Snyder’s head question The Snyder's 6.0 combustion chamber is pretty rough; would there be any benefit to smoothing it up or would that change the volume too much?
