Does anyone have a source for this type of spare tire cover?

Does anyone have a source for this type of spare tire cover? Does anyone still make these.

I am watching the web, and swap meets, but wondering if "new" is still an option.

Looking for metal with open center style that can be painted for a 15" wheel.

Thanks

I just logged onto E-Bay Motors, 1936 Ford Tire Cover and several popped up.

Probably will not fit your needs, but the TBird vendors sell a cover for a 56 TBird. The outer cover is steel and the ring is fibreglass. Quite expensive, cover is 222 ea., ring 197.

Get a stock one and cut out the center.

Thanks for the feedback.

I've had the 1936 cover and it won't fit the car in its current configuration. The 36 cover is to narrow and to tall, and I'd rather not cut up and original.

Looking at the Thunderbird dealers, those prices are a bit steep, but not outrageous, but the Thunderbird ran a skinny 14" tire originally. Anyone know who supplies them? Maybe their source would have some other size options.

Still noodling this one. Any ideas are welcome.

The Thunderbird cover was designed for a 15 inch tire, 7.10 bias ply I believe. Not exactly a small tire.

Re: Does anyone have a source for this type of spare tire cover?

I have had some experience with the '56 T-Birds, have owned one for over 30 years. The tires on the small Birds were 15", my Bird has P20575R15 tires on it. this size of a tire is 27.11". The original size for a Bird was 670-15 which is a 28.5" tire, same as 600x16.

I would think that a '56 Bird cover would work on the application you are looking for.
I don't think you could cut the center out of a '36 cover because it would not extend into the wheel far enough. A '35 center might fit because the '35's were 600x16 tires, you would have to find a wider outer ring.
Of course you could use a smaller, narrow tire for a spare on the correct wheel, after all it would only be for emergency's.

I use a late model space saver spare in my '39 conv because it has to stand up behind the passenger seat. No room in a rumble seat car for a spare tire.

There is a '35 with the open center on Minneapolis MN Craigslist--automotive parts, down three or four pages

Check the above post titled "identify this tire cover". Ask if it's for sale as it looks like what you need.
