Two two barrel 94 setup

Hey guys, I’m running 2 X 2 barrel 94’s. Just saw a video on line of similar set up. His primary carb was the front mine I have the rear, which should it be & does it matter?

Re: Two two barrel 94 setup

You should be running them together.

With a 2 X 2bbl setup. they should be run together. No primary/secondary

Re: Two two barrel 94 setup

Start with 51 jets and 6.5 PVs on a stock flathead, which is what I've run on my '51 for many years, along with straight linkage. There really is no good reason to run progressive linkage on dual 94s or 97s, imo.

It all depends on the manifold type. There are three different types of manifolds for flatheads. There is the "Super" where the carbs are placed directly over the intake ports, the "Regular", where they are spaced closer together, but still equidistant from the ends of the manifold. These types need a straight linkage. The third type, which I call "Biased" has the front carburetor placed a smidge forward of the stock location, with another between it and the fuel pump. It is my contention that these were meant to be run with progressive linkage, with the front being the primary. With this set up, the engine runs essentially like a stock two barrel most of the time, with the rear carb cutting in at full throttle to add extra fuel mixture, distribution be damned.

Also, I asked "CharlieNY" about this for my Navarro "Universal" (a "Super" with exhaust heat) and he said to start with 51 main jets and to plug the power valves. I purchased those items from him.

Here is a picture of a "Biased" manifold; note that the front carburetor is very close to the stock location. This type also allows the generator to be mounted in the stock location.

V8 Bob has it, Good place to start. The worst thing you can do is have aan engine runninr rich in cruise. Once you have the ignitions figgered out, use an AF meter to find the AF in cruise. This should bein the low 14 and above. It's posable to get into the 15's with hicompression and ignition advance.

I've heard this before, but would really like somebody to explain how you get enrichment under a medium to heavy load with stock size main jets and no power system ? I'm not saying it won't work, but just confusing to me.

Re: Two two barrel 94 setup

I have had 2 flat-heads each with the super dual manifolds, 94 carbs setup like V8 Bob and a straight linkage. They worked great. I also ran the larger version of a carb like the 94's set up together on the top of a Roadrunner blown FH and they were set up with a straight linkage. Worked great. All my carbs were built by Baxter Ford Parts in Lawrence Kansas

Re: Two two barrel 94 setup

We really should know what type of manifold the O/P has. I would bet that a "biased" type of manifold would run better with progressive linkage the great majority of the time, given the locations of the carburetors relative to the intake ports.

Re: Two two barrel 94 setup

It’s much like a slingshot w Both carbs r equal distance centered over intake. I’ll dump the progressive & see if there’s any diff. & report back.

I've talked with Charlie about this. I do not agree with blocking the power valves. You will tend to run richer than wanted at low power modes which is where 90% of your driving.

Re: Two two barrel 94 setup

I run dual 94s on a thickstun high rise. Actually not 94s, but 2100s which have a 1" venturi.

Straight linkage. Power valves in both but with softer springs than normal, so effectively the equivalent of lower number power valves.

I run jets the equivalent of 54s. This is on a 3-3/8 by 4" motor with a hottish cam.

I did use an AF meter to get the initial setup.

Fallacies:
1, Use smaller jets. Tried that, it ran like crap.
2, Block off the power valves. Hmm, not sure about that. Maybe for all out drag racing, where the jets would be sized for wide open operation and no street driveability intended. I tend to use 'em.
3, Use progressive. Tried that. Couldn't get it to run right.

Mart.

Re: Two two barrel 94 setup

There are a few threads on the HAMB that discuss how to set up dual 94s. One fella who has fairly detailed instructions doesn't recommend plugging the power valves.

Here's one of the threads:
