1930 roadster

What color should the inside of the rear window frame be on a roadster? The body color is yellow, fenders are brown. The top is tan. The upholstery is brown. I plan to have the frame powder coated.

I found this info on Mike's Affordable website:

"Stainless outside frame, plain inside. Complete with glass, Setting rubber and hardware. 7"" x 16 1/2"" outside. Used on 28-31 Roadster & Phaeton, 29-31 Cabriolet - 68A, B, & C, 1931 A400. The specified finishes for the inside steel frame are: Deluxe Roadster & Phaeton - Satin Golden Beryl, Standard Roadster & Phaeton - Satin Black, Cabriolet 68A & B 1929 - Satin Black, Cabriolet 68C, 1930 & 1931 - Mahogany Grain, A400 - Walnut Grain."

The book "The Ford Model A as Henry Built It" has a whole page on the back light frames. The 1930/31 Standard Roadsters were pretty basic. It had the steel stamped frame painted satin black inside and gloss black outside. The Deluxe Roadsters also used a stamped steel frame but a rustless steel frame was also used in that time frame. The inside was golden beryl on both types. The steel stamping was chrome plated on the outside and the rustless steel version was polished on the outside.

It’s stainless steel. “Rustless steel” is all over old Ford advertising.

Re: 1930 roadster

Stainless steel is kind of a misnomer anyway. In aviation terms it's referred to as CRES or corrosion resistant steel. It will corrode but not in the same way as other ferrous steels that don't have the nickel content. Even the chrome content helps reduce corrosion. Ford always referred to is as rustless steel back in the model A era. I was just using Ford's description of the product.

The Judging Standards do say the interior finish was satin golden beryl. The outside frame could be either chrome plated or stainless. Outside either is ok.
