34 Rear Oh Sh!t handles My 34 Fordor Deluxe has an elastic rope weaved grab "handle" on the back of front seat and similar material broken short handles attached to the rear C pillars right and left. What are they officially called and where might one seek to find a pair?

Re: 34 Rear Oh Sh!t handles The handles as you called them on the C pillars are "assist straps" .You see them from time to time on EBAY.The one behind the seat is I think the term commonly used is "robe rail".

Re: 34 Rear Oh Sh!t handles Deluxe fordors, tudors, and Victorias had the C or B pillar "assist loops" (B-56986-D, carried over from the '32 model year) and the deluxe fordors had the "front seat back robe cord" (B-163850-D, also carried over from the '32 model year). The terms in quotes are from the 1933-34 body parts list (catalog).

Re: 34 Rear Oh Sh!t handles Most of the robe cords were actually a chain covered by a flexible tube with a material much like wind lace covering the tube. They generally had spring mount fitting to the back of the seat on each end. Ford even supplied a robe type blanket as an accessory item to be used as a lap warmer for passengers I assume. There were available up into the 50s on higher end fordor passenger cars.
The early versions of the robe cord were a bit more simplistic than later cars. |
