Bumper Over Riders on '42-'47 Pickups

Interested in knowing if these were available as an option from Ford during this time period. If so, what specifically was used. Thanks

I don't believe that Bumper Guards were offered in these years on Ford Half-Ton Pickups

Pair of 1942-1947 Ford Half Ton Pick-Ups.
I took this photo at the Early Ford V8 Grand Nationals in 2013.

I bet it would be easy to find some period correct aftermarket over riders as sold by Western Auto, JC Whitney and others. I have a universal bolt on grill guard and the brackets fit the curvature of the front bumper quite well.

I have Dealer Handbooks for 42, 46, and 47 that list the available Ford accessories. Mercman has it right, nix bumperettes. One of our MH buddies is visiting a MH parts hoarder this week and I’m hoping he comes away with one of the MH supplied optional grille guards. Stu

I agree with truckdog, he is pretty knowledgeable & thorough in his research. I have one grill guard that is Period Correct, it is big (over the lights), heavy , thick metal & bulky. I think there were 2 or 3 that were Period Correct accordingly to my Hilty's 46 & 47 OPTIONS books. You don't see many out there, i suspect they were one of the last Period correct options one might have considered.

I bought this about 20 years ago from a guy that had specialized in GM advance design trucks. I actually bought two. The hammered one may go on a junkyard wrecker that lurks in my cranium's dark recesses.I think it was a generic aftermarket piece, but not sure.

Picture of GB SISSON's Ford Tonner Pick-Up with After Market Accessory Over Riders / Bumper Guards. Looking good.

the 46 truck had a large grille, headlight guard made out of heavy metal—- good enough to toss off small cars and large animals, intimidating enough that it was rare for someone to pull out in front of it
Jail bars

Gaurds or not, I just LOVE these "jail bar" trucks.

Rick - I’m no good at posting pics here so will email you the MH pic with the big ugly cow catcher grille guard I’m hoping to find. Would also appreciate a return pic of what your Hildy’s shows. And where on earth did you find the 46/47 Hildy’s Blue Book? Stu
