Is it supposed to be green to match the seat or black (as sold by Bob Drake) ?

BINGO! I'm not a 40 Ford expert so that why I asked. Now does anyone have a color code or paint formula to match the correct shade of green ?

Farley, I'm not 100% certain but am willing to bet if you took my photo to the local Hobby Lobby and looked at their offerings of poster board, you'd find a match.
Specifically, go to their custom framing department.

Bob's supply of the paint is on backorder.

Kube,

Great Idea! But what about the headliner and the panels that run along the seat sides ? I assume based on your reply they are to be black (as sold by Drake) ? Are you the 40 Ford EXPERT here ?

Here's a drawing from Dennis Carpenter. My '38 was also originally all green.

My original interior cardboard panels were green. The only kit that i have found and purchased is the all black one from Dennis Carpenter (Midwest ford) !!!
Has anyone painted this material with any success vs leaving it black?????

1940 pickup

I have a little experience painting cardboard. I'm certain there are others with much more experience that hopefully will weigh in here.

Painting cardboard has some unique challenges. 1) The cardboard tends to allow the paint to soak in. Thus, you need to seal it. 2) Cardboard is flexible and as such you will need to introduce a flex agent. Think modern plastic bumpers...
Even so, pieces like your headliner will be asked to bend quite a bit. I'm not certain if or how long the paint will remain crack free.
In your particular case, I'd strongly suggest acquiring the proper color cardboard and cutting it to fit.

I don't think anyone makes the interior headliner and kick panels in anything but black anymore. Parts availability has dried up for these trucks in the last few years.

You wouldn't by chance have a used taillight and bracket that i can use for a right side light??

I think they only made one bracket for the early Ford pickups. It will work on either side.
