32 Ford Title

I have a 32 Ford tudor sedan and the serial number begins with AB over the years most of my deuce titles began with 18. What is the story on this title?

All U.S. and Dagenham, England-produced '32 fours had an AB or ABB prefix to their engine number prior to engine #62387 when the "A" was eliminated from the prefix.

What was the approximate date of ol' number 62387?

Re: 32 Ford Title

Exact date not handy, but it was before the end of April, 1932. If your interest is trying to ascertain the production date of a vehicle, there is little correlation between four-cylinder engine/transmission manufacturing dates and the date of their installation in a vehicle chassis, unlike with V8 engine/transmission build and vehicle build dates. The reason is because more than 36,000 four-cylinder engine/transmission assemblies had been manufactured before the first four was installed in a chassis and there is no evidence that a strict first-in, first-out policy was in force.

Hi,

I have a copy of a compilation that Vince Falter made a few years ago, "Ford-Köln Model A, B, & G28T Engine Serial Numbers (VIN Number); available at the link below.

I'm sure our dedicated and treasured expert, David will comment.

No surprise that they provide the same answer (April, 1932) given that the information if from the same Ford source documents.

I own a 50,000 number tudor, and it has a mix of early stuff and regular stuff. But it was assembled in Des Moines, so I'm sure some different variations of parts crossed paths before it went down the line.

Early 32 stuff always piques my interest!
