Inner Tube Size Hey Guys,
What size tubes do i need to get for stock rims for the 26 coupe with wood wheels? Thanks Rob |
Re: Inner Tube Size If it has 21 inch wheels,the 4:40/4:50 tubes. If it has 30x3 1/2's then that size.

To get the correct dimension, do i measure the diameter of the wheel or detachable rim.....also snyders or langs the place to get them or is there a better place? |

You wrote 'stock' rims, for the Improved Car, '26-'27 those mostly came with balloon tires, 4.50 x 21. So you would use 21" tubes. All the proper places can supply tubes, Coker Tire, Lucus Tire, Universal Tire, or the regular T vendors that stock tubes, you choice will be rubber stem or metal stem if you want authentic tubes. |
Re: Inner Tube Size Thanks to everyone who replied.....now if someone can give me a little education.....what's the difference between clinchers and demountables...which are more desirable...and what about the rims that have the clip that hold them together...i bought a bunch of parts when I got the truck and coupe and I haven't gotten the grasp of the differance and benefits of all of the wheel set ups for a model T.

Re: Inner Tube Size Clinchers rely on pressure in the tire to force the bead of the tire into the clinch part of the rim. This is why the correct pressure is important, otherwise wit too little pressure the bead can either come apart or be cut by the rim by too much flexing.
Clinchers can be demountable ie. the rim & tire can be removed from the wheel as an assembly or as with earlier cars, non-demountable where the rim is part of the wheel & you change the tire on the car. With demountable rims it is possible to carry a spare ready to use rather than fix the tire on the side of the road. The rims with the latch affair are split rims & are always demountable. To change the tire it is best to use a rim spreader which will pull the rim into a smaller circle to remove the tire, then it will spread the rim to close the latch again. The T wire wheels are a drop center design which are changed in the same way as most modern tires. On Model T cars the clinchers are either 30 X 3 or 30 X 3 1/2 size, the later, split rim or wire wheel equipped Ts had 21 inch tires with conventional bead areas like modern tires .
