camshaft recomendation I'm new this site and am looking for a camshaft recommendation for my 1939 Ford Deluxe I'm getting rebuilt. I am going to leave the vehicle as an unrestored vehicle so I don't want a loping cam but maybe something that can add a little hp and torque. I expect the engine will be bored to .30 to .60.
Thanks for any help. Smitty |
Re: camshaft recomendation Talk to Tony and his Kiwi100 cam. KiwinUS here on the barn.

Maybe you didn't catch the part about "smittyschmitz" NOT wanting a cam with a lope. All of the L100s that I've heard sound way too good to meet that requirement. Coop . |
Re: camshaft recomendation Get one ground to 8CM specs. 49 Mercury.

Re: camshaft recomendation Thanks Robert and Coopman. Yes a KiWi-L100 maybe not what the OP wants BUT I can grind him a Merc cam or sell him an NOS Ford cam.
Smittyschmitz if you care to pm me with your needs I will gladly help you out. Again thanks guys. Cheers Tony. |
Re: camshaft recomendation EAB grind might fit the bill as well.

Re: camshaft recomendation Tim McMasters has a nice cam grind for the Flathead @ Hanford Machine
More calm than the L100, IMO a bit more pull than the EAB. He runs one in his Mercury sedan. McTim64 on the barn YBlockGuy.com |
Re: camshaft recomendation I recommend a #1 Runzonydownhill......

Re: camshaft recomendation Don't expect much (if any at all) "seat of the pants" detectible increase in performance with an otherwise stock engine.

Re: camshaft recomendation Schneider 248F is a pretty mild cam with slightly higher power band than stock. I used the one w “high” lift, 0.350”. I degreed it and it was ground very true to specs (I bought a regrind). Ken

Re: camshaft recomendation Another 8cm vote here. My 8BA ran better with an 8cm than with a Max 1 Isky.

Re: camshaft recomendation I think the application should determine the cam. Other than stock the choice of a cam and Lifters will top 500 $ plus. The late cams will have to includ a distributor upgrade. The L-100 does not work well in a stock engine n a heavy car, but it does sound very good. I'd use an EAB cam and a load a matic distributor and carb for a stock street engine. also just think about torque?? compression increases it, and cams reduce it!!

Re: camshaft recomendation Listen to Gramps. I was going to suggest a 53 Merc cam.

Re: camshaft recomendation I guess ample torque below 2000 rpm of a stock cam is nice but I myself am satisfied to trade some off for the “swell” of power from 3000-4500 rpm :)
A reground original cam is not too expressive if you shop around. Ken |

Re: camshaft recomendation If your loaded with cash The Max#1 is a good street cam for a small engine. JWL used one in his Dyno tests and archived a 12HP gain at 4K with very little low end loss. but , it's still just as expensive.
