I'm a new member working on a 1953 F100. My strategy is to post pictures of my rebuild up to the present to accommodate the necessary 10 posts FordBarn requires.

About the pickup:
The F100 was purchased near Las Vegas about a year ago. The truck did not have an engine, transmission, driveline, or radiator. I have since obtained most of the deficient parts and I am starting the rebuild.

I hope you enjoy this rebuild and the stories that go with it.

I like it, good bones there it looks like. Is that an overdrive emblem on the grill? Right before I bought my dealership in Iowa the previous owner had a rust free 53 F100 that had been traded in by the original owner in the 70's. Buddy of mine bought it for 2k. In 1998 he had painted it and put tires on it. He said he had $4,800 in it and I could buy it for that. That was the year I bought my partner out and didn't have the money. I found the invoice for it in the basement and I think cost was right around $1,000.

Welcome Bigsky. Those F-100's are really nice trucks. I have some great memories of one my uncle had when I was a young man.

Nice truck, you did good! I too had a very nice original '53 F100 several years ago and I loved it. It had the 215 six cylinder. I installed an overdrive to the 6 cylinder, converted it to 12 volt, added air conditioning and made it my daily driver for 7 years. It's good that you were able to find the missing driveline parts - V8 driveline parts for the '53 pickup are extremely hard to come by, especially the bell housing for the flathead V8 since that was the last year for the flathead in the truck. You will have a great truck when you're done.

Re: New Member - 1953 F100

I just found the front motor mount and the 1953 bell housing for a 3 speed OD. I'm missing the 3 speed OD but I hope that will be easier than trying to find the bell housing. I thought I found the tranny in Delaware but the trucking company lost it. I was able to get my money back.

Re: New Member - 1953 F100 - Donor Motor

My second post has a picture of my donor truck for my motor. I got the motor out of the early 50's grain truck from a rancher friend of mine in central Montana. The price was free and I was able to get an 8RT Flathead V8 and a bonus T98 4 speed transmission from the donor.

A couple of pictures of my 8RT engine we pulled from an old grain truck. Note that I have a T98 4 speed transmission bolted to the engine. That tranny will not be used. My plans are to install a 3 speed OD tranny, which was the original equipment from the factory.
