36 pickup rear fender bolts?

Good afternoon,

I have a question about the rear fender bolts on a 36 pickup. The original ones resemble a 5/16 carriage bolt, except that the head is the size of an 1/2 inch diameter carriage bolt. And there isn't the little square area below the head. Also, how are they held in? Without getting really ugly with them, they won't come out. Can you still get these? The holes in the bed side are round not square to except a normal carriage bolt too. Not really sure what to do. I have Mack- Hils new sides and I was just starting to lay things out.
Thanks
Mark

These are usually called a "rear fender wheelwell stud". Basically the same idea and similar if not identical for some of the bolts 1928-32 coupes and sedans, and late 1931-47 pickup beds. Readily available from most of the "usual suspects" ourself included.

Thanks Karl,
I'll give you a shout. Saw a couple of things that I could use.

Joes Antique Auto or 3rd Gen should be able to help.
I got mine from Mack Hils who reproduce the bed parts most vendors stock.

Originally spot welded in.
Grind away carefully.

Could you rethread the spotwelded studs? Thank you.
