Was Lebaron Bonney bought out by Ecklers?
 

Wondering as we bought a set of tires for the 69 Chevelle SS 396 375 hp car there.
Ad said in stock.

Well they took the PP money immediately and 3 weeks later we called and were informed there was a supplier issue .
In stock ???

Anywayz called a week later and was told to check back in a month . Well BS on that and cancelled the order .
No refund yet [ paid and it was taken immediately] and have now been informed it may take a month for refund .

David, Ecklers has a sordid history of extremely poor customer service. In my opinion, the main reason they remain in business is they are such a large company, and they seem to find "new" folks that haven't got the word.

I'm relatively sure that they ended up the high bidders in the LeBaron Bonney bankruptcy auction. I'm not quite sure that they got much more than the name since there were a lot of problems that happened after they closed the doors. Eckler's already promoted the Cartouche brand through Mac's so I'm not sure why they even wanted it. So far, I haven't seen much about a "New" LB getting back up and running. A lot will depend on the current economic trend I'm sure.

A lot of suppliers of reproduction parts are having supply problems. The larger the company, the larger that problem will be. Eckler's is about as big as they get and folks have had a lot of problems with their policy on sales, billing, and shipping.

There have been a couple posts in the last year about suppliers cutting them off due to non-payment on their account, a spring supplier and sheet metal supplier come to mind. Maybe that could have also happened with their tire supplier.

I recently received word from a reliable source that Eckler's has been purchased by another big company. I think this is good info as another organization has been trying to collect a payment from them. The organization was told to wait as Eckler's was in the process of being sold.

I don't think that their sales people have a clue about their inventory. Ever since LeBaron-Bonney has closed, if you call Eckler's and ask if they have 66" cobra grain roof material that is used on Ford station wagon's, they will tell you that they have it. However, if you try to place the order, the order people will confirm that they do not in fact have 66" material. This has been going on for quite a while and you think by now they would have corrected their sales staff.

What alanwoodieman said, plus I was told sms got all the patterns too in the bankruptcy sale or auction. Now they have early Ford as well as late Ford covered. SMS also has horrible customer service. "We don't care, We don't have to, if you don't like it go to the other guy"

Ditto!! I don't do Debit Cars due to the fact that in many cases once the debit card is ran, the money is gone from your bank account, in many cases the bank is not Jonny on The Spot to get your money back. Once you cancel a sale through your charge card you get the vendors attention quick like a bunny rabbit.

Like blucar said, do not use Bank Debit Cards what you are doing is letting them go right into your bank account, grab cash, and away they go. It benefits them NOT you.

The Bank will not back you. It's too bad so sad. And if somebody steals your bank debit card info oh boy you are in for a real ride, prepare to lose your 'arse' as our English friends say.

I've heard also that Ecklers was behind on accounts payable. I try not to ever do business with these large companies. I prefer a company that I speak to a person and they know me. That way if things go south. I know where to find you.

I have never used a debit card in my whole life to buy anything and I don't understand why anyone would. I use my credit cards for nearly all of my purchases. I even bought a banana at a Walmart store that cost 13 cents because I only had a $20.00 bill on me at the time. I get rewarded with rebates of 2% to 5% from M/C or Visa for this.

Earlier this year I bought a pre-bent distributor vacuum line from Eckler’s because I couldn’t find one from anyone else. It was fairly priced, came promptly, fit perfectly and is still on my ’34 Ford. I guess that I just got lucky.

People who don't like the idea of spending money they don't have (for example), but need something that behaves similar to a credit card for situations that require such a thing (ie; online orders).

Mike, I was born in 1934 during the great depression. My folks never financed anything. They even paid cash for their first house. I guess that I still have that depression attitude toward finance. I did finance my first house but I paid the 30 year note off in 18 years.

I'm an early boomer but my folks went through the depression and they paid cash for everything. When I started out on my own, I did finance my first two houses but paid them off early. I paid cash for the next three. With one exception, I've also paid cash for every car I've owned. The exception was when the loan interest was less than I could make investing the cash, and I paid it off when that was no longer an advantage.

For pretty much every purchase, I use credit cards for the convenience and cashback (although I haven't bought any 13-cent bananas ;)). I pay off the credit cards every month. I don't use cash much anymore and hardly ever write a check.

I occasionally use refillable cards that are not tied to my bank account. I think those are called debit cards but they're really more like gift cards to which money can be added. So if they're lost or stolen, I’m out only the balance on the card and I keep that low.

I’m comfortably well-off but certainly not rich. But my folks taught me to work hard, save, invest, and not buy more house, car, whatever than I needed and not until I could pay for it. Those lessons have served me well.

A lot of folks do what you do (including myself even though I was born well after the depression), which is pay off the monthly credit card bill so as to avoid carrying a financed balance. That said, the credit card is just that - a (temporary in our case) line of credit.

Debit cards are tied directly to one's bank account. One can't spend any more than what one has in the account. For the folks that might not have the discipline to do the former with a credit card, the debit card works well to bridge the gap when a plastic card (or its numbers) is the only way to pay.

Paypal is dealing with it and current status is awaiting response from seller.
Money was taken from my account IMMEDIATELY for in-stock items.

Ordered same from Speedway and they were here in 3 days.

Will not make this same mistake with them again.
