'32 gas gauge I just restored 6 Attachment(s)
Some of you know that I do these. This is a rare French '32 Ford gas gauge (P instead of F on the face) I finished this morning. The line was plugged so bad that neither acetone or brake clean would free it up.Had to use diluted Chloric acid. Before and after pics.

Re: '32 gas gauge I just restored deuce lover,
Wow does that look nice. How do you clean inside? Regards, Chris |
Re: '32 gas gauge I just restored Chris,I carefully take it all apart ,bead blast the case or wire wheel depending how rusty(some don't need it),clean the line using paint spray gun brushes from HF and acetone or acid, clean the lens, make new gaskets, make a new white paper backing,0000 steel wool to clean the chrome then reassemble.Thread chaser on the threads.Small blow gun tip w/compressed air w/pressure turned down is necessary also.

Re: '32 gas gauge I just restored Nice job. I also have done a bunch of 32-34s for the swap meets and it is satisfying to bring back a scuzzy looking mess to like new condition. You can tell if it is going to work by rapidly tapping your finger on the inlet tube and seeing liquid move up the glass. One of the vendors sells the gaskets that go in by the lenses (or maybe they used to).

Re: '32 gas gauge I just restored Excellent work, very clean and authentic. Only if these gauges were a bit more friendly to restore I would love to have mine work properly. I substituted a later year needle gauge and it has been loyally assisting almost 20 years.

Re: '32 gas gauge I just restored Are yes I remember now -I once saw an Australian woman on a french flight who when offered more food responded with "Je suis plein" ( I am full) which is a phrase in slang french that means I'm pregnant !!
