'35 Tailight electrical replacement...wire and connector I'm casting about today...
We, my friend and I, have concluded we need to replace the taillight socket for my 1935 Ford 5 window. While I’ve found the wired set to purchase (a couple with springs), how do we remove the old one and replace it? It seems glued in place or at least it baffles us. Thank you. Jim |
Re: '35 Tailight electrical replacement...wire and connector It's not glued, but rather crimped in place.

Re: '35 Tailight electrical replacement...wire and connector I believe you should hold off on removing the old one. Go ahead and buy a new one, and compare the quality of what you have to what you would replace it with. Reproduction parts, and yes, light sockets in particular, are not worthy of the time and trouble to toss them in the trash.

Re: '35 Tailight electrical replacement...wire and connector Would mind explaining what is wrong with the original socket. Is it rusted or beyond repairing? Picture might help us help you.

Thank you. Here are four pics.

Re: '35 Tailight electrical replacement...wire and connector You'd do well to clean it up and put in new springs. You'll note that the repro has only one spring to serve both contacts, which will contribute to resistance in the circuit. A hardware store can supply the springs required.

Re: '35 Tailight electrical replacement...wire and connector Thank you all. I'm following everyone's advice...

Re: '35 Tailight electrical replacement...wire and connector Alan,
Some of the reproductions have two separate springs as original. |
Re: '35 Tailight electrical replacement...wire and connector David, that’s excellent, and certainly news to me. After replacing my originals years ago with repops, it took me quite a long time to obtain suitable originals again.

Re: '35 Tailight electrical replacement...wire and connector The new looking bulb socket, you have, looks nothing like the original. The original light bulb is a 1158 it has equal pins on the base. The bulb socket has to match the bulb base pin arrangement. Suggest you contact Narragansett for the correct high quality bulb socket with the black and green wire pigtails. I have had good luck pushing out the old and pushing in the new. 404-364-3839

Re: '35 Tailight electrical replacement...wire and connector Naragansett's number 'is not in service.' Pressing contact and entering their email message and then pressing submit offers a message that their link is broken.
