They are a special longer round, slotted pan-head machine screw. They go through the cowl band and threaded D-nut on the firewall, then continue inside through a wire bracket which is held on by a split lock washer and square nut. I'm pretty sure it's 12-24 but don't quote me on that (Mike's catalog confirms 12-24). Sorry I don't have any here at hand to measure, but you can purchase a set of three from most of the vendors (for example, A-16740-MB from Snyders). Suggest you do not do what some doofus did on my '31 and use 10-24 screws held in with Loctite.

Same screw is used top center, which is why they're sold in sets of three.

thanks but looking for the stainless cowl band bolts. I have 4 square holes on cowl sides, look like it would take carriage bolts

I misread your post, I was talking about the cowl lacing, not the cowl band. Sorry. I recently took the cowl band off my early '30 but I don't recall any carriage bolts. Only bolts on the cowl band I recall are the two at the bottom that are swaged into the cowl band and terminate inside the cab.

There are screws that hold the gas tank to the firewall, and clips that fit underneath those screws to hold the cowl band.

I made my own to fit. I know this don't help but I couldn't find a supplier either. Just took a carriage bolt that fit the square and shortened and ground down the head to fit correctly. This was on my March 30 Standard Roadster.
