Kick Panel fasteners Good Evening,
Could someone please tell me what kind of screws are used to fasten the interior kick panels at the cowl - machine screws or sheet-metal type. My holes got painted and I don't want to ruin them if they are threaded. Thanks, Mike |
Re: Kick Panel fasteners Hello, my car is a late 31 roadster and they are just sheet metal type screws with straight slot oval heads ,chrome plated but I think the original type were painted to match the interior color, a brown tan shade .

Re: Kick Panel fasteners 1 Attachment(s)
Here is a photo of my Victoria which is similar to other Model "A's". I put plastic angle stock on the panel to protect it from scuffing by peoples feet.

Re: Kick Panel fasteners D-nuts were in specific sizes. Ford used the small ones for the trim screws in my 29 but I don't know about later cars. Most of my D-nuts still had what was left of the screw shank broken off in them. I extracted what I could and replaced the D-nuts on the ones I couldn't.

Re: Kick Panel fasteners What year and model is your car? I think different means of fastening the kick panels in depending on the body.

Re: Kick Panel fasteners Thanks to all who replied.
My car is a '30 deluxe coupe. There are no nuts involved; just holes in the metal. Mike |
Re: Kick Panel fasteners OK Mike. Mine is a 31 Roadster and I'll check tomorrow but I think the holes are threaded or have "D" nuts. I'll let you know for sure.

Re: Kick Panel fasteners Mike,
Checked my car today and the kick panels are held on by 12-24 oval head machine screws going in to threaded holes in the flange on the door post. Concave finish washers are used under the heads of the machine screws. You might want to examine your closely to see if there are any signs of threads left in you flanges or maybe somebody drilled them out. Good luck! Dave. |
Re: Kick Panel fasteners 1 Attachment(s)
They are a nickel plated oval head sheet metal screw. They are a little over 1/2 inch long. The cup washer was also nickel plated. The picture is of old originals. All 4 of my 30-31 Model A's use these screws.

Re: Kick Panel fasteners In the 1937 Ford parts book they call it a finishing washer and the 1948 parts
book they call it a countersunk washer. There is a finishing washer listed in the Model A parts book but no picture. |

The flush finish washer are like the ones used to hold the floor boards down. The countersunk ones are used on the kick panels and such. On my Town Sedan the flush ones are also under the screws to hold the window frames, I assume to prevent from chipping the faux wood paint??
