Headers

I have a 34 p/u V-8 (3-3/8” x 4”) with a 4” dropped straight axle and wishbone. I have upgraded to disc brakes and plan to use a Vega cross steer setup. My question is what headers work in a 34 due to narrow frame rails? Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Stephen

Re: Headers

Since you're running a Vega box up front, you should be able to use regular 1934 Ford headers (Red's Headers). If it was mine, I'd prototype the setup with the headers and steering box - to make sure your steering shaft setup doesn't have any issues.

Re: Headers

The repro cast iron Fentons fit my 34 coupe with a 59a and stock steering box, just barely, 1/8 " clearance to the box. I know nothing about vega boxes

Consider that according to a recently deceased expert member, John W. Lawson, headers don't significantly improve performance. He did lots of dyno work and documented it in a book with the title of "Flathead Facts." Got it off of Amazon and read the whole thing.

One option is to keep the stock manifolds and, if you prefer something better looking, send them out to be coated with one of those chrome-like high temperature ceramic coatings.
