Block identity

1 Attachment(s)
This engine is in a 29 coupe that I just recommissioned, after sitting for eight years.
The block doesn’t have any ID number on the engine pad, and has this unusual oil drain tube.
Also, has some type of inspection panel, where a fuel um might reside.
It does have a cast in diamond by the timing cover.
I’m thinking that this was a warranty replacement?

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Re: Block identity

There should be cast numbers ect on the other side of the block. Not on the pad. This will decode when it was cast. Diamond blocks were made in many configurations I’ve been told. This is an odd one with the drain tube and a fuel pump. The B blocks didn’t use a drain tube. It will be interesting to see how the inside is configured ie bearing oiling ect.

Maybe from some type of farm machinery, like a Gleaner combine.

I see a block off plate where the B fuel pump mounts.

Re: Block identity

I have seen pics of an "A" block modified with a fuel pump adapted like the "B"
Maybe this makes number 2

Re: Block identity

Putting a Model "B" mechanical fuel pump on a Model "A" engine is not so difficult to do. Use a Model "B" camshaft to get the extra lobe that drives the pump, and from a Model "B" block, make a template to locate and size the fuel pump mounting in the Model "A" block. I would rivet a doubler to the "A" block to carry stresses around the fuel pump opening.
