flywheel too big?

Just bought a new flywheel from Speedway and it is about 1/8 larger on the ring gear. The old flywheel has kinda a radius on the teeth but the new one doesn't.It it hitting the cast housing on my 59ab at the 12 o'clock position.Locks the motor up.Loosen the bolts just a little tap the flywheel back and it frees up.Can I grind the block or radius the flywheel teeth a little. The old flywheel has cracks all over it and it was chattering bad.Had to rebuild the trans so I needed to put a new clutch in while it was out. Thanks

Man, that sucks! There are SOME things you buy at Speedy-Way, and OTHERS that you don't! There should be NO mods necessary with the RIGHT wheel! Contact Michael Driskell at 3rd Gen Automotive tomorrow morning, and Michael will point you in the appropriate direction!

Re: flywheel too big?

Called Michael yesterday and he told me the bolts on the oil pump gear cover hit the Speedway flywheel.Put a dab of grease on the 3 upper bolts and sure enough marked the flywheel. So I will get new bolts and grind them down to make sure they don't hit.He has had trouble with Speedway flywheels.Looks likw Speedway would get the people that make the flywheel to cut the radius more to clear the bolts. He told me to either recut flyweel and rebalance or change bolts.Going to put socket head button head and locktite them in.Thanks for letting me know about Michael

Despite being a couple of young-uns, he (and Momma) are a pretty savvy pair, and will help the customer any way possible! They run a tight ship!

Re: flywheel too big?

Please be sure to let us know if the socket head cap screws solve your problem.
They have pretty tall heads so I am wondering.

However, I see you can buy low profile socket head bolts.

Re: flywheel too big?

I put the button head screw in last night and they do not hit the flywheel. So I sent Speedway a memo of what I found and as usual no responce. Thanks to Michael at 3rd Gen and he helped me get this solved.I will now lock tite the screws in today I hope.On to getting the rest of the clutch and trans back on the engine and back in car. Thanks again for help
