1946 Mercury Convertible Top Alignment

Does anyone know if there are ways to adjust the top on a '46 Mercury convertible? It went up and down fine before the material was applied, and now with the material on, the passenger side seems to touch and bind up when going up or down.

There is 4 eccentrics on each side that are used for adjusting the rails, also the front plates that bolt to the front wood bow have longated slots for a little adjustment & finally where the top frame bolts to the body there is also a little adjustment there but very hard after canvas is on.

Putting on a new top is a cross between art and science. The tension between the bows and the top material is critical, as well as the fastening to the rear of the top ahead of the trunk and to the header bow. This is why installing a new top is best left to the pros. You best bet is to have a good shop look at it to see what can be done. A friend of mine found that his top was so tight that the doors couldn't be open or shut!
