Wood grain wrap?
 

Has anyone used vinyl "wrap" film to get a "wood grain" look on a dashboard? Any suggestions? Thanks!

I got my dash and garnishes hydrographic printed. I chose a fancy burl. Sort of like a wrap but more like a decal. Many woodgrains and assorted other patterns available. I was unhappily satisfied with the workmanship of the provider I used, but the actual process isn't to blame. Most folks comment positively on the finish. I'm a perfectionist.

It is often applied to firearms and auto wheels, pretty much anything they can fit into the dip tank. The provider I used didn't prep the pieces to my expectation (he left the rust pits in, which necessitated a flat finish instead of a gloss)
It is similar to any painted finish in that it is delicate to a point and will scratch if you are careless or a part rubs against it. It is much more wood looking than a hand applied finish and the options for all sorts of grains are really broad. I wasn't trying for a stock grain and wanted a bit more pizzazz. I would use it again, different provider though.

THE ONLY CORRECT METHOD IS THE METHOD THAT FORD USED. I do hand method (not correct but at one time OK ) you can now get the original method (same as ford did) ONLY if the correct plate or pattern is used. There are a few people that have the correct plates. I was fortunate to find one (he has passed now )

Honest Charlie's in TN does it with positive feedback, I also believe that Juliano's in CT does it. FWIW
