36 pickup seat cushion mesh

Is the coil mesh that covers the seat bottom springs still a necessity when recovering or is the mat that comes with a Cartouche kit sufficient? If not, is there a place to purchase or a replacement?

I do not know about the Cartouche covers, I used the ones from ..........., whatever their name was that everybody used back in the day, but unfortunately it closed down. Whatever, I used the original padding and also used the padding that came with the new covers. Still working well after many years. (It's no fun getting old and can't remember. (LOL )

Mesh? Burlap has been widely used for decades.

This is a picture of the steel mesh I was referring to. Evidently it was not something original?

Re: 36 pickup seat cushion mesh

I use burlap to cover the springs and then muslin on top of the burlap so the covers move around easily to adjust them. When tearing apart some old Ford seat springs I have seen the wire mesh on top of the coils. I'm relatively sure Ford outsourced the springs to companies close to the assembly plants and those companies made the decisions on whether to use mesh or burlap.
