1950 Ford Tudor Door Locks

Hi All,
I am installing new door locks in my Tudor, I have them mounted and the square rod is inserted into the square hole in the door. What/how are they connected to the door lock mechanism? Get the feeling that I may be missing some parts. Also, how are they connected to the door lock pulls that come up through the garnish.

Thanks, Steve

The square shafts should be long enough to slip into the small square hole in the door lock mechanism. Once in place properly everything else that happens is after the lock.
All the lock cylinder does is move a blocking finger to allow the lock mechanism to operate or not.

I have the shafts in the square holes in the door mechanisms and the key locks work but do not seem prevent the door latch from operating.
