parts we buy- that we dont need....... About a year ago, bought a pair of 36 horns on the HAMB. didnt have any use for them, but they looked good and were cheap........
so a month ago I buy a 35 phaeton and 36 woodie in a package. guess those horns will get good use. do you guys find yourselves buying parts you dont need for "someday"? |
Re: parts we buy- that we dont need....... Yep, a 34 intake manifold this weekend.

Re: parts we buy- that we dont need....... Just when I thought I was through with flatheads I picked up a complete 8ba with a side shift trans. It was supposedly stuck but it freed up pretty easily. In the process of trying to get it running. Has a truck pan and a 1/2 bell housing.

Re: parts we buy- that we dont need....... Nice! I also always find myself buying wheels............

Re: parts we buy- that we dont need....... The only thing worse is buying a part you think you need and then finding that part in your stash you bought years ago.

Re: parts we buy- that we dont need....... I cannot resist any reasonably priced Mallory "flattop", no matter what it's for.
|
Re: parts we buy- that we dont need....... I do. When I found out that the cargo floor mat for 1946-1948 Station Wagon's were not being produced any longer and getting hard to find, I purchased one for future use. Don't need it now but I have one in stock.

Re: parts we buy- that we dont need....... All my life. But a few years back after realizing I am winding down my activities I started selling off stuff that didn't go on any vehicle I currently own.
Still though, if I see a neat part reasonably priced........well.... |
Re: parts we buy- that we dont need....... I go to every swap meeting looking for a steering wheel puller and come home with a box full of good "junk" that I don't need and no puller. Hmmm?????

Re: parts we buy- that we dont need....... Back in my 'rookie' days (46 years ago) I did not know the difference from 1936 Ford hubcaps and 1937 Ford hubcaps (innies and outies). So in my swap meet travels, I usually came home with very nice looking 1937 Ford hubcaps. By 1978 I had quite a few, so I went out and purchased a 1937 Ford to put the hubcaps on.
The 1937 Ford is gone, and there is only one 1937 Ford hubcap still hanging on the wall. So, yes, I have purchased items I didn't need. But I did enjoy the 1937. So, have you ever experienced the seller that had 4 of the same item, and you only needed one, but he offered you the 4 for a more reasonable price than just buying one? |

That is so TRUE! |
Re: parts we buy- that we dont need....... Been there done all of that. I have recently found myself selling off all my stuff. I sold off two fuel pumps for a 34 and wound up needing one. I paid twice as much as I had gotten for the ones I had. But, we're having fun ain't we. LOL

I have done this so many times.........Mark |
Re: parts we buy- that we dont need....... I got into 8BA carbs now I have about 12. I only need two. I also got into starters and generators now I have about eight generators and six starters. All this with a pile of C1 Corvette parts and Model A parts. Go figure !!!

Keep checking Ebay for a Snap-on "vintage" steering wheel puller. They show up every now and then. If you can get one that is a complete kit, it does a large number of wheels. The one you want for Ford has a "horse shoe" attachment covered in rubber. I got mine for $100. Works perfectly and does not damage the wheel. It's better than the KR Wilson in my opinion. It's hard for me to resist and multi carb intake. Even if I don't need it, I like looking at them on my garage wall. |
Re: parts we buy- that we dont need....... Thanks, Tim Ayers, for your thoughtful response.
Agree, on wall hangers. Staring at some this moment! |
Re: parts we buy- that we dont need....... I buy spare parts "just in case". Got four boxes of small parts and a bunch of bigger parts laying around. Got to the point I couldn't remember what I had. Decided to inventory each box and set it up in my computer. Now I can check if I have a part in stock before buying.

Re: parts we buy- that we dont need....... If you pass-up on a part that got your attention, two weeks later you will find that you need it...
