Early 28 brake cross shaft Started working on my 28 roaster p/u. I encountered a different cross shaft than I have seen. Its 3 pieces. My question is, dose anything belong between the shaft and the U clamp where it is supported out at the frame? I have lots of movement front to back. Should note this is early, no seperate shaft for emergency brake, the e brake pulls on the 4 wheel brakes.

Re: Early 28 brake cross shaft No, it is just the shaft passing through the bracket. The shafts are typically worn right where they pass through the bracket. I recently had some welded up. Yes, this brake system was kind of floating to equalize between the 4 rods.

Re: Early 28 brake cross shaft Thanks for the diagram. Thats how my three piece brake shaft is, but I don' have seperate emergency brake system. Looks like all that is there is the support brackets at the frame. Going to rework them to take out the excess play.
