Is there a way to remove just the pin-striping?
The wife just does not like it and that is important (duh!) of course.

The local well-known pin stripper, Bob Bonds who has been doing pinstripes and artwork for decades told me to use easy off oven cleaner in the yellow can, to remove pinstripes. If you do a google search you will find several youtube video's about the process.

Use a quart of paint remover and buy a gallon of body color!

I have used Easy Off on stripes before. Do not let it set to long as I did. It cleaned the stripes, paint under it, and softened the primer.

Are the stripes painted on clear coat or single stage paint? Makes a huge difference. If it’s on clear coat, you can use 3000 grit or so, and color sand it away, then buff out the area, I have done that before on large logos painted on the doors on a ‘33 pick up I had.

Digger is correct, the way to do it would be to carefully sand it off by hand, without going too deep, and then hand buff without rubbing thru any where. Almost like you walking the tight wire at the circus for the first time, no room for error.

I used the Easy-Off method to remove poorly-executed door signs on my roadster pickup. They were done in One-Shot over single-stage Delstar. Took awhile, but it worked well and left no discoloration or residue. I'd guess your striping is done in One-Shot as well.

cas, hopefully the person or dealer you bought it from could tell you
who painted it. ;)

AND if you can't find out good info about the paint on it, then be
very careful about applying any Chemicals on it, or the stripe.

I've used the "Easy-Off" oven cleaner in the YELLOW spray can....GOTTA be the YELLOW can! I shake it well and spray a small amount of the oven cleaner liquid into the spray cap (or some other SMALL receptacle). FIRST....Try to remove a test stripe in an inconspicuous spot.

In the shade, have some water in a bucket, with a T-shirt or similar rag. With the rag dampened, rub it on the surface where the unwanted pinstriping is. Take a "Q-Tip" and stick the cotton end in the bucket to saturate the cotton with water. Now, dip the cotton end into your capful of "Easy-Off". Rub the Easy-Off directly onto about one foot worth of the unwanted pin stripe with a back & forth motion. Make sure to keep the cotton swab well-dipped in the Easy-Off. You ought to get 6" or so out of each dip. Walk away and take a short cigarette break....3 to 4 minutes or so. Come back with the wet rag and begin wiping the Easy-Off and pinstripe off of the surface. It should all come off the first try. If not, extend your cigarette break by a minute or two. Use a very wet rag.

You'll be left with a somewhat dulled line on the painted surface where the stripe used to be. Throw some polish at it, and it's like it never was striped. All that most stripers ever use is "1 SHOT" sign painters' ENAMEL.
