where to get a new grill for my 34 Went with my 34 Tudor for a nice ride in the backroads of my area. Suddenly a little deer decided to cross the road. I hit the brakes instantly and missed him as he was already over the road when he decided to come back. Accident was unavoidable as he ran directly into me. The grill is smashed in, found the little fellow on the side of the road, willing to run but could not due to his broken back. We phoned the police and when they came they redeemed the poor little deer. Now I will need a new grill as mine will take a long time and lots of work to repair. If anyone has some hints and tips where I should ask, I will be very thankful!
Will add some pics tomorrow. Harty |
Re: where to get a new grill for my 34 Thats some sad news indeed. Bob Drake is no longer making them last I heard, might want to check as his were the best. Some of the hotrod dealers would buy up bunches and then jack up the price when demand allowed. Thats going to a hard thing to find

Re: where to get a new grill for my 34 Drake made a new 34 grille. Check with him and if he doesn't have one maybe those that carry Drake parts may have one.

I've seen this grille advertised several times on Instagram. Is this vendor legit? There's very limited information about them on their website and the location is only stated as "Los Angeles, CA". Has anyone else here on the Fordbarn done business with them before? |
Re: where to get a new grill for my 34 I just searched the old classified ads on HAMB and I found the above pictured 34 grille sold 2017 in Engletown, New Jersey for $2500. I can't believe that it's now for sale in Los Angeles for $2000 so be very careful before sending them any money!
Here's the link to that old ad https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...-sold.1076179/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...-sold.1076179/ |
Re: where to get a new grill for my 34 Without a photo it's hard to tell if yours can be repaired, but that may be a cheaper and better option.

Re: where to get a new grill for my 34 I will definitely repair my grille but it will need a rechrome so this will take a lot of time. To get the car back on the road I prefer to have a suitable grille that is ready to install.

Re: where to get a new grill for my 34 I have had Andy's Restoration in St. Libory NE. repair several 32 inserts for me and I've seen some 33 and 34 grilles he's saved. Don't know if he's still doing them but it's worth a call.

The OP is in Germany.More cost effective to find someone in Europe IMO. |

Here are the promised pics. The grille was dented on friday night, sunday I started working on it and on tuesday the car was ready to go again. Needs a bit of copperspray here and there and a rechrome but at least summer season is not lost.

Re: where to get a new grill for my 34 I was in the army, stationed in the Pfalz back in the 1950's. I remember that the deer were tiny compared to the ones we have in Texas. I also remember that they had some big rabbits there. You did a great job repairing that grill.

Re: where to get a new grill for my 34 Is that a 'right hand' drive car? In Germany?...

Re: where to get a new grill for my 34 Good job on the grille straightening.

Re: where to get a new grill for my 34 Yep, its RH steering and as far as I could find out the car was built like that in Argentina. I found several imprints and markings on various parts with "Industria Argentina" so that leads me to believe it started is 88 years ongoing yourney there. I was not able to find out when it was imported to Germany.

Re: where to get a new grill for my 34 That’s interesting Vincent.
I believe that my ’34 roadster was built in Germany or some other part of Europe for the following reasons: It came out of a European car museum in Houston, Texas. The museum closed in the early 1990’s after the owner died. It was titled to the estate of the museum owner when I bought it although the heir’s husband had been using it for about three years. It has a January 1934 serial number which appears on the top of the frame, near the steering box and on the clutch cover. The serial numbers have a 48 prefix, not the 18 prefix that the American models have. The emergency brake system is separated from the service brake system. There are four rear brake rods. The bumpers are 1933 style as is the cowl air vent. The rest of the car is 1934 style. It has 9/37 (4/11) rear axle gears, so it probably came from a mountainous area. A home-made appearing copper plaque is riveted on the firewall which I assume was done when the car was exported. It is stamped with the serial number less the stars and the prefix. Although the speedometer registers in miles it looks like it had been replaced at some time. Our 1934 Fords have really gotten around. |
