Flathead Service Manual

Hey All,

I'm looking to get a service manual for a 37-38, 21 stud engine I just picked up. I will be keeping the engine stock so hot rodding books probably wouldn't be needed.

Any suggestions?

Regards
Bill

Dennis Carpenter has reprints of a few different manuals

Also try the early ford v8 club

When I first got my V8, I was surprised to learn Ford never published service manuals for the dealership mechanics.

I like the reprint V-14 1937 and 1938 Engine and Chassis Repair Manual as a starting point. It has 32 pages plus two wiring diagrams. I think you should be able to find a copy from your favorite Early Ford vendor.

I have always found the large blue Motor manuals to be very useful. True, they cover all makes but actually have more detailed information than anything else I've seen (For example, they are the only source I have ever found with a specification for 8BA oil pressure - 57 psi.) I have had a 1960 edition for some time (it covers the '53 model), and recently obtained a 1950 edition in very nice shape off of eBay for $19 plus shipping. This one covers 1935 through 1950. in addition to the make-specific information, they have very good generalized sections on ignition, brakes, transmissions, OD units, etc. etc.

From what I understand Ford of Canada did. Here is a reprint from Faxon's:

For 37, 21 stud, I would also add to the excellent resources already mentioned...
the service bulletins
and, if it were a little later, say 1942, would add the factory military manual
(I'm pretty sure that current reprints are available for both of these)

The green 1932 to 41 shop manual is a good one. Some of the best shop manuals came from Ford of Canada.

Ford used the simple shop manual along with the service bulletin to do most things. They left a lot to be desired.

This is a good one,

This is the green one and may be about the same but I don't know. I think both are Canadian.
