brake cylinders
 

Continuing on our 50's rod build, we hare having problems finding decent brake cylinders and hoses. Per my tag, the car is a 32 Roadster converted to hydraulic brakes sometime in the 50's at the latest. Wagner cylinders are hit or miss as far as leaking as they have absolutely terrible quality on the fitting threads. Also the rubber lines to the front wheels are at the bare minimum length for a full turn of the wheel. I assume someone out there must make some decent stuff.

Assuming you have the 1939 - 1948 Ford " Juice " set up --- which the pre - 1939s regularly used, I have the wheel cylinders made in California, not Chineseum, and I have the front brake hoses that are 18" long, which are 1 5/32" longer than Factory specs -- such that they have been perfect for this application, for decades...

Notice you are in PA --- I am here at Spring Carlisle NOW --- I am in I I 118-119 (middle of the Infield, Row I , spots 118-119 (Aye - Aye 118-119) if you want to swing by and pick them up..... I have Master Cylinder, U.S.A. Made also, and Brake Shoes
(1939 - 1941 (round hole) are different from 1942 - 1948 (hole has indents) , both are here on my counter....)

Would like to get to Carlisle as it's just a 20 minute drive, but working today and tomorrow am committed to another project, also related to my dad and also dealing with something we've been working on for decades. Thanks for the info on the brake parts. I'll follow up.

Give Joe's Antique or Fred @ Southside Obsolete a call. I believe they both should have US-made master and wheel cylinders in stock.

there is only one rule with brakes QUALITY regardless of cost personaly i stay away from NOS kits as rubbers dont last 50 years even if they are still in the sealed packet as a rule brake soft parts have at best a 5 year shelf life and when its all said and done your life depends on it

I used 1939-(48?) Truck hoses for the front brakes on 1930 Roadster.
They were long enough to leave a good size loop.
