Differences between 37/38 and Standard/Deluxe In my quest to find a 37/38 coupe of my own I keep running into details that cause me to question or not be able to identify what I'm looking at. Some of the differences I've been able to notice or research are:
1. The standards only have one tail light so would be more difficult to add turn signals. Except I think many have already been added. 2. Deluxe models came with the banjo steering wheel. 3. The club coupe (very desirable for me) only came on the deluxe. 4. The 39 standard grill is similar to the 37 grill. The 39 deluxe front end has the "beak" nose which I don't really care for. 5. Not sure but maybe the dash on the deluxe had the wood grain paint? I feel like I'm forgetting some. Feel free to correct these or add more. Could really use your help on these details. And let me know if you know where I should be looking for my driver coupe. |
Re: Differences between 37/38 and Standard/Deluxe 37/38 Club coupes are more family friendly with their rear seat, but IMHO don't quite have the flowing lines of the others with their shorter trunk. However if you want a club coupe go for it.
Advertise here on the Ford barn in the Wanted section and also in the EFV8 club magazine. Good luck. Chris.NZ. |

Re: Differences between 37/38 and Standard/Deluxe 1937 Grille/Hood/Front fender/Inner fenders are all quite different than 1938 Standard, which again is quite different than 1938 Deluxe. Few parts interchange.
1939 bodies are completely different in the trunk area (and no club coupe). 1939 Standard is similar to 1938 Deluxe and shares the same fenders with a different grille and hood. 1939 Deluxe has a completely different cowl and the grille/radiator/hood/front fenders/inner fenders are all different than the standards. |

The lines of the club vs regular are quite a bit different. I'd prefer to club just to open up the options and use the car in more ways. I doubt I'll find a club so will end up with the great looking lines of a regular coupe. Kind of a win/win situation. Tried the Wanted section but no action. |
Re: Differences between 37/38 and Standard/Deluxe Why not subscribe to the Early Ford V-8 Club's V-8 Times magazine and place a wanted ad in that magazine. Also place a wanted ad on the V-8 Club's website at; www.earlyfordv8.org. Club coupes are out there and over time I have owned both a '37 and a '38 club coupe. The '38 was produced in smaller numbers. Also consider buying the V-8 Club's 1938-39 book and their 1937 book.
You need to expand where you are looking. Try other car websites like Cars On Line.com |
Re: Differences between 37/38 and Standard/Deluxe I think the original poster's location is going to complicate car shopping.

Re: Differences between 37/38 and Standard/Deluxe In Australia, the 38 Club Coupe was available in both Standard and Deluxe.
These were based on the 37 Club Coupe body. the only coupes locally manufactured for 37 and 38 were Club Coupes. for 39 and 40 I believe Ford Australia carried over the 37 bodies with 39 and 40 cowls |

Re: Differences between 37/38 and Standard/Deluxe either the std or the dlx has small ribs on the chrome dash trim, the other is smooth...
also woodie and cabbie dashes taper smaller towards the outer edges, makes the glovebox doors different than closed cars... |

Yes, '37 DeLuxe has the vertical, stainless ribs as I showed above in post #3! Coop https://assets.hemmings.com/story_im...00-0.jpg?rev=1 |
Re: Differences between 37/38 and Standard/Deluxe Not stainless steel, but rather a combination of chrome-plated zinc die castings (glove box door and between instruments) and chrome-plated steel stampings masked and wood grained (ash tray face and radio block off plate).
