Champion 3x plugs????????
 

Got a set of these in today from Amazon, (never used these before), a couple have the electrode nearly touching the center electrode, the other 2 are pretty close. My question is how do you adjust these? Don't want to damage them. Gap is 33 to 35 I've read. I have a old style L gap tool. Please school me on this procedure, Thanks

This type of gap set gives you the black tips to bend the ground,or use a pair of needle nose pliers and bend till the gap is correct.

Jim, I do have that black tool on the end of my gapper, the electrode is pointing down towards the center at a angle, do I just bend it back enough to slide the gap tool through the gap?

Just set the gap where you think you want it. Whatcompression head do you run?

I have run 3X plugs for over 45 years. I tried every plug made for the Model A and nothing runs as good as the 3X. You can clean them, re-set the gap and they go into the bore deeper than most replacement plugs. Wouldn't run any other plug, and have three sets of new ones that will be going into my 31 CCPU and 31 S/W Town Sedan.

You guys can correct me if I am wrong. The gap should be between the electrode and the side of the center electrode at the very tip of the center electrode, not above it.. I once read that the downwaed angle of the electrode to the side of the plug was to prevent fouling from oil. I would think that would have to be a pretty worn engine for fouling to be a problem. Is there a video anywhere of how to gap these plugs? The angled electrodes are not even on these plugs.

Are you sure you have 3X plugs? I have never seen a 3X without the angled electrode.

Don't bend the center electrode or you will crack the porcelain. You can use the needle nose plyers to reform the outter electrode by bending it first outward near the attachment and then towards the body of the plug. It does not have to be exactly at the tip of the center electrode nor does it have to be downward facing or upward facing.
